Review the use case
Use this checklist to structure an early conversation. It is a learning aid, not legal advice or a substitute for an organisation’s formal governance process.
- Purpose: what decision or task is AI supporting?
- Ownership: who is accountable for the outcome?
- Data: what data is used, and are permissions understood?
- Risk: what could go wrong, and who could be affected?
- Control: where does a person review, approve, or escalate?
- Evidence: what records show how the system was used?
- Review: when will performance, risk, and suitability be reassessed?
Make the decision visible
Record the proposed use, the decision owner, the key risks, the controls, and the reason to proceed, pause, or reject. A short, dated record is more useful than a policy that nobody applies.
Common questions
Is this checklist a compliance assessment?
No. It is a practical starting point for asking better questions. Regulatory and organisational requirements vary, so qualified professionals should confirm the applicable obligations.
