Use this before choosing a tool
A good automation project starts with the work, not the software. Copy this brief into a document and complete each field before designing the workflow.
- Problem: what recurring work needs improvement?
- Outcome: what should become faster, clearer, safer, or more consistent?
- Inputs: what information enters the workflow, and who owns it?
- Steps: what happens in sequence, including decisions and human review?
- Output: what artefact or action should the workflow produce?
- Controls: what must be checked before the output is used?
- Measure: how will you know the change helped?
Minimum portfolio evidence
Show the original process, the proposed workflow, one example input and output, the review point, and the trade-off you made. Do not claim production impact unless you measured it in production.
Common questions
Can beginners use this automation template?
Yes. It is designed to make the business problem and workflow visible before technical implementation. Beginners can complete the process and decision sections first, then identify what technical help they need.
